LFC
Brief History of Department :
CBF (Cattle Breeding Farm):
The cattle breeding farm of Nagpur Veterinary College is one of the oldest dairy and cattle breeding farms in India. It was established way back in 1890 by the C. P. & Berar with local Gaolao cattle. In 1908 to 1917, 37 Sahiwal cows were introduced and Gaolao was withdrawn. Initially a few Sahiwal animals were brought from various Government institutes and the herd was developed later on. During reorganization of state in 1956, most of the good animals were transferred to Anjora farm in Durg district. During 1956-60 again, it was under the control of Agriculture College. Murrah buffaloes were reared on this farm from February 1965. Then on 20.10.1969, this farm was transferred to Panjabrao Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola and now after formation of Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur, it has come under this University. This farm was renamed as ‘Gaolao cow and Nagpuri Buffalo Research and Training Centre’ in the year 2006 and since then Gaolao cow and Nagpuri Buffalo are reared at this farm.
LFC (Livestock Farm Complex):
The Department of Livestock Farm Complex at Nagpur Veterinary College, Nagpur came into existence on 2008 and thereafter renamed as per VCI new regulation as Livestock Farm Complex on12/10/2017. Undergraduate curriculum with credit course (0+2= 2) is in force from the month of August, 2018. Apart from the routine regular managemental activities this Department is actively engaged in the teaching, research and extension activities of different departments of college. Under LFC crossbreed and Sahiwal cows and Murrah Buffalo are reared at farm.
